Arizona Department of Gaming Announces Allocation of Event Wagering License
On March 15, 2024, ADG announced that it had allocated an event wagering operator license to Fanatics Betting and Gaming as the designee for Tonto Apache Sports Betting, an organization of the Tonto Apache Tribe, pursuant to A.R.S. § 5-1304 and A.A.C. R19-4-105 and 106.
Event Wagering License Notice
In 2021, the State legalized event wagering and directed the Arizona Department of Gaming (ADG) to adopt rules and act as the primary regulator and enforcement body for event wagering and fantasy sports contests.
The enabling legislation allowed for a maximum of 20 event wagering operator licenses in the state, with 10 reserved for Arizona Tribes and 10 reserved for Arizona Sports Franchises, as defined in A.R.S. § 5-1301(7).
Arizona Department of Gaming to Accept Applications for Event Wagering Licenses
On January 16, 2024, ADG announced that it will begin accepting applications for available event wagering licenses, which includes one event wagering license reserved for Arizona Tribes and no less than one event wagering license reserved for Arizona Sports Franchises. See below for a detailed timeline including notable dates for prospective applicants.
*If there are more qualified applicants than available licenses, ADG will review each supplemental allocation application and make a determination pursuant to R19-4-106 of the State's event wagering rules.
